MIRRORS FOR MANTLES

 

 

A friend has been looking for a large decorative piece for her mantle

and we have discussed a few options ... to no avail.

 

 

Then she spotted this mirror sitting in a big pile of my treasured furniture and the idea was born.

Plz measure this .... its perfect! - Plz paint it ... perfectly white!

 

 

Of course it is not the only uber cool mirror I have hiding around here so I pulled out this one too

and fixed it up and painted it for some one else who might be in a similar situation.

COTTAGE SIGN lady pamela

Lady Pamela emailed me after stumbling upon my last show in South Surrey,

she also happens to be a fellow blogger that I follow.

Here is some of the email she sent me:

Hi ,

I have been wanting a sign for my home that says "Lady Pamelas Cottage" for many years now,

but could never decide on what style exactly. I really loved the signs you had at the sale.

The only thing that I know for sure is that it has to say "Lady Pamelas Cottage" on it.

Other than that, perhaps my favorite white roses.

I enjoy working on signs and even more when there is a direction as clear as Pamelas.

Her sign is made from a vintage foot board cut to 35" wide to fit her space and an old rose mirror frame.

 Yes Mother if the roses look familiar it is your old mirror from the bathroom.

Dont give me any grief you gave it to me years ago.

The new owner has only seen photos so far but here is some of what she wrote me:

! My mouth dropped open.

It is soooooo beautiful and perfect.

I cant believe you caught the essence of my decorating soul.

I am giddy with happiness.

Had a Break In

This past Tuesday when I arrived at my shop I realized it had been broken into in the night. The burglar broke a set of aluminum double doors on the side of my shop and stole about $600 worth of tools out of my shop.
They stole
-Senco Framing Nailer
-Senco Brad Nailer
-Bostitch Roofing Gun
-Dewalt RO Sander
-Dewalt 14.4v Cordless Drill
-Case of Kreg Pockethole Screws
-Face mask Respirator
I was so disapointed when I realized what was stolen. I hadnt gotten my insurance finalized yet so none of the items stolen where re-inbursed. Not much I can do about it now except hope that the police find my tools or that I find them in a local pawn shop. Now I am getting insurance as soon as I can!

ECLECTIC SHABBY CHIC

 

 

I hope you like this new project as much as I do.

 

 

 

These provincial night stands have been traveling around our house for sometime.

I repaired them when I first purchased them, then they sat around getting moved from place to place.

 

 

I remember the day they got painted, but I had not found the doors I wanted to add to the bottom yet. 

So they sat around a bit longer.

Eventually I found the right doors and installed one to make sure they would work and look good.

Now I had to keep track of the other door, screws, and hinges until I felt like installing the other one.

Some more time went by and if I recall right I even painted the one with the door installed again (just the door part) and painted the door that was not installed yet.

 

As long as we are moving forward each time right? 

 

At this point I would like to stop and say this is not my typical motis operandi

but I am willing to admit on the rare occasion I am human.

 

Finally the second door was installed ....

and they sat around for a bit longer moving from room to room as I worked on

"more important projects?"

 

 

Well the day has finally come where all the final choices have been made, wax has been applied,

handles and knobs installed and photos taken.

BENCH BUILT FROM A BED

I spend a great deal of time and labour rebuilding fun and useful furniture from salvaged items

and sometimes the items wouldnt be possible without first being donated for a new purpose.

 

 

 

This amazing red bench originally was a donated headboard and footboard

from Carrie Thachuk owner of The Passionate Home.

 

 

 

It was a dark stained solid oak mission style bed her daughter had used at one time.

With the addition of some more salvaged wood, and several hours of painting and waxing

she is now the perfect entry / hall bench or dining bench as the back side is also finished.

 

I used:

2 seat boards & 4 cross struts for the ends 

base coat ASCP white, 2nd coat flat black spray paint, top color ASCP Emperors Silk

sanded with 120 grit, waxed and polished with Minwax paste finishing wax

 

 

The Passionate Home is about to celebrate their 7th year with a Birthday Flea Market right inside the store.

FYI, I stopped in for some paint yesterday and saw the amazing treasures being brought out.

This is one sale you do not want to miss,

I started making all sorts of funny noises with each different item I saw the chance to own.

 

Lots of ornate frames, a tall set of lockers, fancy glass wear, candle holders, orchard baskets, cheese box, wash stand cabinet, french provincial dining set with hutch, vintage baking pans, suit cases, local vintage life preserver, old typewriter and table, dental table, iron stone, 2 large vintage gates / doors, shutters, half a dozen shoe stretchers, beautiful china, science beakers, dress mannequin, lamps, antique brass candle sconces, Victorian oil lamps, DIY chairs, guilded mirrors, mason jar, misc silver trays and kitchen wares, tool caddies, antique irons, and more.

 

Congratulations Miss Carrie, not very many small business owners gets to celebrate 7 years.

Ive had an extreme makeover and Im looking marvelous.

We had a long road together getting each element finished just right.

Sometimes I just didnt understand her vision and wouldnt cooperate with what she wanted.

It was a vision of beauty.

I hear that next time shes gonna show more pictures

of how we created this look together.
