MIRRORS FOR MANTLES

Sabtu, 30 April 2016

A friend has been looking for a large decorative piece for her mantle
and we have discussed a few options ... to no avail.

Then she spotted this mirror sitting in a big pile of my treasured furniture and the idea was born.
Plz measure this .... its perfect! - Plz paint it ... perfectly white!

Of course it is not the only uber cool mirror I have hiding around here so I pulled out this one too
and fixed it up and painted it for some one else who might be in a similar situation.
Check out the ACCESSORIES page for this mirror and several other updates including
some over sized frames.

MARKETS MIRRORS

Kamis, 10 Maret 2016

This weekend has been filled with all sorts of fun ppl,
unexpected encounters, and a great deal of running around.
All to be expected when you are putting your best foot forward and showing off your wares.

But this weekend started almost a month ago when I helped a fellow
blogger / repurposer get through her market.
Im pleased to introduce you to Jen of Jentiques

Some of you attended the vintage market
held in Maple Ridge several weeks ago but most of you didnt realize I would sort of be
a vendor there. Thats because it wasnt official and a tad last minute. I promises Miss Jen of Jentiques
if she felt over extended through this busy season all she would have to do is
give me a few days notice and I would pull together what ever I could to fill in the gaps.
After all as she puts it I live in a museum of vintage things so it wasnt that hard.

The picture above is Jentiques booth the morning of set up (looks amazing as is)
It truely had the feel of a little vintage store inside of this big barn.
The picture below is after her fairy god mother emptied her truck.
Looks like I just cluttered things up.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jen and visiting with all my other vintage vixens (and John)
throughout the 2 day event. I found myself stopping into over a dozen different booths to chit chat
and take in the scenery. At one point I walked the isles with a feather wreath festooned upon my
head, I snuck into several different booths to find a comfy seat to drink my hot chocolate and just ppl
watch, and I even bought a table I proudly carried around for awhile showing off.
When Im comfortable I tend to get goofy.

Shhhh!! I also bought another mirror. Good thing I let a few go recently.
A few of the items that came home from this last weekends event are a jewellery organizer
now listed on Etsy

A lovely vintage window and large shabby chic mirror
listed on the MIRRORS page with prices and dimesions.

Ive slowly started the Christmas decorating and as it comes together I will share the photos.

VERDIGRIS MIRRORS how to

Senin, 07 Maret 2016

I painted some vintage oval mirrors in a turquoise verdigris look awhile back
and have not got around to sharing the technics I used, until now.

Verdigris is the common name for the natural green patina
formed when copper, brass or bronze is weathered
and exposed to air or seawater over a period of time.

This technic works for mirrors that were originally gold.
The gold color is going to take place of your copper, brass or bronze.

I originally painted the gold frames in a latex white and they sat around long enough to fully cure
(1 month), this is going to be a tough layer of paint to work with.

I painted the turquoise over the white latex.
My turquoise was a mix of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Florence and white mixed to tone it down.
I scrubbed back the turquoise to expose the white with a kitchen sponge
and I use a razor blade to scrape back the white exposing the gold.
The oxidation process is rather rough and unpredictable and using
the different paints helped achieve the look.

Have A Great Weekend!!!
