HOW TO DEMOLISH A DRESSER WITH A VEHICLE poor george

Kamis, 19 Mei 2016

Most of my current project are all still in some unfinished state but I do want to share with you
what happened earlier today.

Cue the photographic evidence ...

thats what you get MDF

While backing out of the driveway some ones tire caught the edge of this
dresser and demolished it in a split second. I had just got out of the shower and was in a bathrobe when I heard the commotion. As Im flying out the door to find out what has happened I hear a familiar voice calling my name.

In Georges defence we had so many other furniture pieces to move yesterday
and quite a few other things to deal with I forgot to get the dresser moved off the driveway.

Most ppl who have met George know how wonderfully friendly and kind he is.
Here are a few more facts about George ...

- Hes college educated with a bachelors degree
and originally from New Brunswick (east coast) where he worked for NB Power for 23 years
- Hes coached hockey most of his adult life and took teams on tour to Europe
- Early in his teens the NHL were scouting him but he liked playing in a band more.
- He lost his father in a plane crash over 30 years ago.
- Hes been a director on 2 non profit boards here in Vancouver
- He donates to charity every chance he gets and especially at Christmas
- He was a business man wearing a suit most days before I met him.
- He had never been to a yard sale before me and now he brings home roadside treasures.

3 of the furniture pieces he was helping me move yesterday were these large dressers
I was painting for a local extreme makeover.

I also had a couple of photon shoots to get through including this vintage country display cabinet,

and this outdoor bedroom scene.

The weather has been amazing and hot so Im spreading out and have projects all over
which is taking away from my time to write about each of them for you.
The photos are all being taken and Ill be able to
show you the ins and outs of most of them when the weather turns.

As for the the dresser ...

I have less demolishion to do and most importantly George is forgiven.

ANGEL WINGS dresser makeover

Kamis, 12 Mei 2016

My love of wood working came quite naturally.

I taught myself how to paint, I developed the confidence and learned over time how to use power
tools. I was gifted with a creative never ending mind and the eye to see wonderful and beautiful
shapes and ideas. It has taken countless years to put it all together to create the amazing things I write
 about in this blog.
I started this project as I usually do, picking a piece I would like to work with
but not knowing where it is going when I start.
I get familiar with the piece while doing repairs, and think about how it can
look unique and amazing but still fit into someones lifestyle today.
These beautiful angel wings I added are my custom graphic transfer process.
The image I used was found on line.
Adding these chair legs to this boxy piece of furniture was NOT simple or easy!

THE POWER OF PINK pink dresser

Rabu, 11 Mei 2016

This is a big reminder of how powerful color and paint can be.

This dresser use to be in a garage storing tools and other manly things.

The three ASCP colors I worked with were Coco, Antoinette, and Old White.

She has six pretty pink glass knobs and hand painted details on the trim.

She was flat as a pancake so I added trim pieces to fancy her up and give her some curves.
These are off cuts that were donated to the Restore and I was luck enough to show up at the right time to find them. I know if I dont stop in to check Ill just never know what I will be missing out on, so you be sure to stop into your local RESTORE and see what you can find.

MAKE YOUR OWN STENCILS sheet music dresser

Minggu, 08 Mei 2016

I have a trick for you to make custom stencils, any size, shape, and inexpensively.

I dont have time to run to the craft store or wait for an order to come in the mail and because I
work on larger projects I like to be able to make my own stencils to fit the right size of my projects.

HOW TO:

** I print out a simple graphic on regular paper the size I need.
** Then I cover the front and back of the paper with strips of clear packing tape.
(This makes my stencil thicker and water/paint proof.)
**The final step is to cut my stencil out with a shape knife and get to work.

YES IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!

I recently used these fancy Fleur de lis stencils to finish off a sheet music dresser I did.

Be sure to stop in to see whats new in shabby chic white hardware available at firstfinds.
The Etsy shop is filled with all sorts of vintage hardware.
There is over 1000 pieces of used hardware to choose from

RICH ESPRESSO FINISH black and white paris dresser

Senin, 02 Mei 2016

Richer than black, warmer than ebony, its ESPRESSO!
and Im not talking about coffee ladies.

I painted the top of this Paris rue dresser with one coat of ASCP Graphite over a medium colored
wood finish. Graphite is a dark charcoal color but is too flat on its own.

Once the paint dried I applied a liberal layer or 2 of ASCP dark wax.

Above you can see the upper edge has dark wax on it and the lower edges is just raw graphite paint.
I took a dozen photos to show you this and its still iffy whether you can see the difference perfectly.

The dark wax takes a long time to dry if you want it to be rich and heavy. I let it dry for several days,
buffing occasionally then adding a coat of clear wax to give it a nice shine.

These handles are done the same way as the Etsy hardware.

I added some well placed graphics to the drawers.
*Well placed* is an interesting term considering I tried several different ideas,
in several different locations, sanding away the mistakes in between attempts.

These graphics were drawn and filled in with black paint pens.
