RICH ESPRESSO FINISH black and white paris dresser

Senin, 02 Mei 2016

Richer than black, warmer than ebony, its ESPRESSO!
and Im not talking about coffee ladies.

I painted the top of this Paris rue dresser with one coat of ASCP Graphite over a medium colored
wood finish. Graphite is a dark charcoal color but is too flat on its own.

Once the paint dried I applied a liberal layer or 2 of ASCP dark wax.

Above you can see the upper edge has dark wax on it and the lower edges is just raw graphite paint.
I took a dozen photos to show you this and its still iffy whether you can see the difference perfectly.

The dark wax takes a long time to dry if you want it to be rich and heavy. I let it dry for several days,
buffing occasionally then adding a coat of clear wax to give it a nice shine.

These handles are done the same way as the Etsy hardware.

I added some well placed graphics to the drawers.
*Well placed* is an interesting term considering I tried several different ideas,
in several different locations, sanding away the mistakes in between attempts.

These graphics were drawn and filled in with black paint pens.

This was once my TV console but now I have cleaned her up ready for a new home.

She has a single sliding door and a mirrored back on the left side.

I taped off the very bottom of the legs where the metal feet are and painted them white.

The wood has all been dark waxed and polished.

The handles were scrubbed clean and painted white.

This White & Walnut Mid Century Sideboard / Console is listed on the SHOWROOM page

Today I want to do a big shout out to Tina Pinkert of Livingston Texas,
and yes if you are one of my followers get over to her facebook and say HI or Howdy

No blog for Tina.

Not everyone is crazy and writes a blog while maintaining a facebook page,
and successfully rebuilding furniture. Plz note the words *crazy* and *maintaining*

Tina is one of many ladies who have reached out to me for help, advice,
or some simple supportive reassurance. Half a year later she is forging her way
through many furniture projects for resale and making a real go of it.

Over on Tinas Available Items Album I read she likes to keep a dining set or two in stock,
good grief I can barely get one set done and stored safely when the weather is good.

And speaking of good weather and Texas sized projects ...

I have a big coffee table for you and I hope its just what one of you have been looking for
because the only place I can fit it to store it safely is in my truck.
So all the pretty pictures you get for now are in the yard. George mowed ... that should count!

Please dont drive over this one George.

I did a rustic weathered finish that looks really cool.

I painted the base in ASCP French Linen which is a mocha brown grey color
and white washed over that with ASCP Pure White that was watered down.

NOTE:

this step is for experienced painters or those willing to practise patience.

The fun / dirty part comes when you apply too much wax over undried watered down white paint.
Think about that for a second ... you get smears, and goops, and missing paint, and as
long as you work with the grain of your wood and you trust the process
you can achieve an amazing rustic finish that looks silvered and weathered.
You can drag a coarse sand (80grit) paper through the mess to achieve more of the wood grain look.

FYI:
When you are done you should have a completely silky soft and smooth finish, thats the part that
takes the time and patience. Fine sand paper, steel wool, and plenty of rags will get you there.
