HOW TO DEMOLISH A DRESSER WITH A VEHICLE poor george

Kamis, 19 Mei 2016

Most of my current project are all still in some unfinished state but I do want to share with you
what happened earlier today.

Cue the photographic evidence ...

thats what you get MDF

While backing out of the driveway some ones tire caught the edge of this
dresser and demolished it in a split second. I had just got out of the shower and was in a bathrobe when I heard the commotion. As Im flying out the door to find out what has happened I hear a familiar voice calling my name.

In Georges defence we had so many other furniture pieces to move yesterday
and quite a few other things to deal with I forgot to get the dresser moved off the driveway.

Most ppl who have met George know how wonderfully friendly and kind he is.
Here are a few more facts about George ...

- Hes college educated with a bachelors degree
and originally from New Brunswick (east coast) where he worked for NB Power for 23 years
- Hes coached hockey most of his adult life and took teams on tour to Europe
- Early in his teens the NHL were scouting him but he liked playing in a band more.
- He lost his father in a plane crash over 30 years ago.
- Hes been a director on 2 non profit boards here in Vancouver
- He donates to charity every chance he gets and especially at Christmas
- He was a business man wearing a suit most days before I met him.
- He had never been to a yard sale before me and now he brings home roadside treasures.

3 of the furniture pieces he was helping me move yesterday were these large dressers
I was painting for a local extreme makeover.

I also had a couple of photon shoots to get through including this vintage country display cabinet,

and this outdoor bedroom scene.

The weather has been amazing and hot so Im spreading out and have projects all over
which is taking away from my time to write about each of them for you.
The photos are all being taken and Ill be able to
show you the ins and outs of most of them when the weather turns.

As for the the dresser ...

I have less demolishion to do and most importantly George is forgiven.

GEORGE HAS A NEW SKILL candle making and fairytale nightstands

Rabu, 30 Maret 2016

Berry Scented Pink Candles Embellished with Vintage Buttons
Believe it or not but George learned how to make candles this weekend,
and he really enjoyed it. Ive mentioned before that he likes his mason jars
and Ive also mentioned to him he needs to do something with them not just collect them.
I ran across a candle making kit at a local yard sale and bought it for him.
He learned how to add dyes to the wax to get different colors as well as different scents.
Vanilla Scented Cream Colored Candles in an Aqua Painted jar with White Florida Clam Shells
Turquoise Candle in Turquoise Painted Jar Embellished with a Hand Picked Florida Beach Shell
He has added them to his Etsy store to share with you,
and by chance if they dont sell ... Merry Christmas family!
But I have faith they will sell just look at how cute they are.
Mean while I finished up a set of story tale Snow White Nightstands.
Looking through all my photos there doesnt appear to be any before photos or even
in progress ones. It might have something to do with being the candle makers helper.
They started out as a boxy little set with some ugly screwed in spindle legs and mismatched hardware.
The new legs were from an dusty musty auction stool I picked up.
The scalloped piece on the bottom center was left over piece from a
another table and I cut to fit it between the legs.
I chose these handles because their shape mimiced this scalloped detail so well.
There is also a bit of interesting news shared over at 4 the love of WOOD facebook page

GEORGE IS A GONER cabinet transformation

Jumat, 12 Februari 2016

I remember that morning we were running late because someone slept in.
It was one of those Saturdays I enjoy so much, spending time with George, getting out
to all the yard sales and finding other ppls crap I can make into something wonderful.
I still had to make a delivery and an install before we could make any stops.

Heading down the road I spotted this cabinet and my heart started to pound in my chest.
Unsure if it was the A&W I just ate or the treasure I just saw it was time to get my hands back
on the wheel or get a ticket for not using a hands free device while driving.

George has an affinity for yard sales even when I am not there so he dropped
me off and back he went. George is a mighty force to be reckoned with but when it comes to dirt,
hes a goner.

Poor George picked up this filthy, spider ridden cabinet for me.
He was a one man crew picking up and loading this piece into my truck.
Once he returned you had to see his face, his dirty white shirt, and hear the story only he could tell,
priceless!

With a piece that was this grimmy
I had to clean, sand, paint and wax the interior shelves,
lined all the drawers as well as the inside back panels.

There was some damage to the bottom edges so I cut that right off and added new legs.
Mixed up a lovely antique cream color of paint, added some iron scroll work to trick your eye
away from the building block shape, and installed a mirror into the door.
