I TURNED SPIDERMAN SHABBY CHIC bathroom cabinet

Kamis, 12 Mei 2016

Id like to take a moment out of your day to impress upon you the extent of
damage there was on this piece of furniture.

What was I thinking?
 better yet ...
What were they thinking?

Who doesnt love Spiderman?
Both sides of the cabinet looked like this.

Inside the drawer were clothing tags glued down.
You do realize the child that owned this could now be grown up and one of our premier designers!
Im betting not but you just never know.

See the writing and all the ink stains, some of it was three dimensional and glittery.
I do get distracted by shiny things, maybe it was the glitter pen that first attracted me,
or maybe for Halloween this year George should dress as Spiderman.

Eventually I got it cleaned up and repainted.

Thats when the transformation into something new and exciting really started.

I took an old kitchen cabinet door and cut it to fit the bottom opening.

Next I used some more kitchen doors to build into a tower.

I topped the tower with this wooden wall hook thingy that I picked up on one of our
THRIFT SHOP HOPS

For the back I used tongue and groove bead board bought at a yard sale.

Then the last few details were added ...

A piece of ornate metal work from a trellis and some glass hardware for the
cupboard and drawer.

She is now the most attractive bathroom storage cabinet in the land,
and will be on her way home within the next few days.
Cause someone has already claimed her.

I have a feeling I might have to do a few more of these storage towers.

1930s VANITY TURNED INTO FRENCH NIGHTSTANDS

Kamis, 28 April 2016

Two little drawered units were lovingly donation just before the holidays.
Thank you again to the Donator!

"See the side panel on this one ..."

This use to be a 1930s dressing vanity that was divided into two.

I was able to add some costly additions such as these tall hardwood legs and 4 matching
pieces of antique hardware. The little swing handles have a really nice patina.
They mount with tiny screws through the front. In this case I predrilled first because there is
never room for error when installing tiny antique brass flat head screws.

It seems like there a thousands of these stepped topped art deco vanity desks out there.
It also seems like there are even less people who like them, me included.
I started a PINTEREST page devoted to finding great looking up cycled 1930s vanities
so some of them can be saved.

GOLDILOCKS AND THE STUBBY VANITY vanity turned coffee table

Kamis, 31 Maret 2016

This is a long sorted tale about a stubby vanity that lead me to a double project
Im currently finishing up.
Below is the cute but ugly little vanity sitting for sale in a second hand store.
Its only 2 feet tall with its casters, bit of an issue for most normal height, long legged ppl.
I thought ...
"What an interesting piece for a kitchen display,
Ill make an extra tall top and that would be it"
Well like Goldilocks and the 3 bears
It didnt happen that way at all ...
Attempt #1
was stolen for my new desk
Attempt #2
didnt look right
Just then Goldilocks came to visit looking for just the right piece.
After explaining she wanted a coffee table of sorts but something taller with storage.
I showed her the stubby vanity.
At that point I had removed the extra little drawers on top and had started to work with the paint a bit.
She asked me what my plans were and I really didnt know.
We chatted about her space and colors, then she left it to me.
I took the mini drawers that started on the top and mounted them underneath.
I stripped and stained the top
I stripped 3 drawer fronts
I jazzed up the backside with some details along the bottom.
Once I was finished
Goldilocks came for a second visit and liked the stubby vanity so much
(turned coffee table) she took it home with her.
BUT ... like all good horror movies the story isnt quite over yet.
(this wasnt really a horror story, it just sound like a good way to keep your attention)
That left me with this big shelf to use for something else ...
I tore it apart and started recreating something new.
Actually 2 somethings ...
These shelves will be listed in the showroom as a pair once I finish waxing,
choosing the right hardware, and deciding whether to add an extra special touch.
