St Paul Classic 2011

Kamis, 28 April 2016

Hi Everyone,
The St. Paul Classic was held today and true to form my husband and I rode today. This year we decided just to gently cruise through the route and not try to break the land speed record. Here are some photos:
This is a photo of folks lining up to check in at the University of St. Thomas, the beginning point of the ride.
This is a shot of my husband getting ready to start the ride.
This is a photo of Ramsey Hill. This is a really steep hill that occurs about 3/4 of the way in the ride. It is really steep and Ive never been able to ride all the way to the top. This year I dragged myself up by foot.
My husband was able to do it and youll see him in the next photo.
There he is--the Iron Man!!
When you get to the top of Ramsey Hill there is a small park where food and drink and a place to sit down and catch your breath is set up. They have healthy snacks:
And of course I went for the lemon bars. There are probably enough calories in one of these bars to power a small city, but they are soooo goood!!!
And here are two pictures of the view from the park:
It was a really nice day. The weather was absolutely perfect. And this was my 10th Classic.
See you next year!

ITS JUST ABOUT US

This post is not about a piece of furniture or how to, its simple about what is going on with us.

I try to spend my weekends off the computer and with this handsome man as much as possible.
This past weekend was no different.

We went yard sailing and found a few items to play with. George found the Montreal book for his reading pleasure and I found the stool on the left with a broken leg.
The metal brackets will get painted white and I really didnt need the 7-UP crate but felt
obligated to buy something at that particular yard sale. I will find a spot for it or eventually pass it along.

On to another important to me topic ...
I love sleeping in luxurious clean, fluffy, mix and match bedding, so I change my sheets weekly and I am always on the look out for the next coordinating piece.
Ive been compiling pictures of my bedding addiction to finally confess to you all but havent got to far yet with those pictures but know that I am at least letting the cat out of the bag.

Whats up with the furniture you ask?

The last 2 fancy carved frame chairs got put on hold while the weather has been warm
and I have been working outside. Doing the finishing of these chairs is best suited for inside.

I hope to find the time to write an article on sanding with tip and tricks using photos I have taken of these chairs. Tutorials take quite a bit of time to write with coordinating pictures.

There are several pieces Im working on outside including a hall tree, a bed, a closet,
a storage trunk, a console dresser, and a coffee table.

??

When the weather is nice I like to spread out!?

COCO DRESSER PAINTING HARDWARE SUMMER WORK SPACE chest on chest dresser

The weather here has been amazing so I have been busy cleaning the outdoor work space.
It takes time to move from indoors to out and visa versa.

Ive started many new projects with the nice weather, including more nightstands, a coffee table,
some bar stools, a vintage record table, and a pub table. I do not recommend having several projects
on the go cause you tend not to finish any in a timely fashion, and the same is happening to me. I just
managed to finish the chest on chest I purchased in February, but that was more to do with the
right color choices than time. I hope you like the ASCP Coco on the drawer faces cause I sure
didnt like the whole dresser painted white, it was like a giant Michelin Man for your bedroom.

I changed the hardware to these french provincial handles that I sprayed in white.
Always be sure to clean your hardware with warm soapy water before painting.

THRIFTING SUBSCRIBING

Here are some of the many treasures I found this past weekend.
I need more furniture like I need another hole in the head!

Ive been up cycling standard jewellery boxes but Ive been wanted to try my hand
at altering a big beautiful silverware box into a jewellery drawer.
I think this would be handier for us ladies with large collections of bling.

Looks like the time has come and Ill have to find just the right graphic for the top.

While we were out thrifting we had the chance to stop in and visit The Passionate Home.

I decided to walk in with my fabulous blue hydrangeas I had just purchased (second hand).
When Carrie saw the cheap price tag I believe she called me a colorful name @#$%^
That is what its all about, getting out there and finding amazing deals on things you love.
She had also just spend full price for some store display hydrangeas. Wink!

?
I often pick up bits and pieces of wood and metal objects to incorporate into
new and unique pillar candle holders. I was able to find a few more pieces to play with.
The starfish dish (made in spain) is for my collection of things I adore.
Now if I can just find the matching one I have stashed around here somewhere.

I spent all Saturday night and early Sunday cleaning, painting, and polishing
some new finds to get some nice photos taken.
Stop in to see the new shabby chic white hardware available at firstfinds.

Id also like to Welcome all my new subscribers who came over from Facebook yesterday,
(I see Second Chance Furnishings on the list this morning)
and update my current subscribers with what has been going on ...

Feedburner, the program Google uses to email blog posts to subscribers has been sending out
random posts from the past and at this time there is little I can do to stop it.
Google offers no solution to the many bloggers that this is happening to.
Because of this many are choosing to unsubscribe.
I will always respect your choice to receive and read what you wish and if these repeat emails are
causing you to consider leaving I wanted you to know what is going on.
You can always check the date the posting came out right at the top under the title.

1930s VANITY TURNED INTO FRENCH NIGHTSTANDS

Two little drawered units were lovingly donation just before the holidays.
Thank you again to the Donator!

"See the side panel on this one ..."

This use to be a 1930s dressing vanity that was divided into two.

I was able to add some costly additions such as these tall hardwood legs and 4 matching
pieces of antique hardware. The little swing handles have a really nice patina.
They mount with tiny screws through the front. In this case I predrilled first because there is
never room for error when installing tiny antique brass flat head screws.

It seems like there a thousands of these stepped topped art deco vanity desks out there.
It also seems like there are even less people who like them, me included.
I started a PINTEREST page devoted to finding great looking up cycled 1930s vanities
so some of them can be saved.

MY BED IS IMPORTANT bedding

Im excited to sleep in my bed every time we put fresh crisp clean bedding on.
And that is usually once a week. I have a soft bright white duvet and many
different duvet covers that fit perfectly over it.

I have fun mixing and matching sheets with the covers.

The theme changes though out the year as the seasons change. My British Flag
bedding comes out during the winter.

Tomorrow is the Chairs for Charity event hope to see you there.

DISPLAYING COLORED GLASS

Glass gets its color from metal oxides being present when the glass is formed in to objects.
Most of us adore colored glass but most of the time we dont display it to its full potential.
This display box use to have a backing on it. I removed it and put it on the window sill so the sun light could stream through the pretty colors of my glass pieces.

When you come across an old telegraph insulator at a yard sale you lift it up and let
the light shine through it as you admire the bubbles and waves from when it was originally made.
Take a moment to look at how your treasured color glass pieces are displayed.

Look how wonderful these vintage juicers look with the light coming through, head over to
http://www.somewhatquirkydesign.com/2013/05/vintage-juicers-and-lemon-lime-bars.html
and see how these look hanging in a window. Its a unique and fun display that gets my vote.

I have added a double set of lockers to the SHOWROOM today

and soon I will have some office furniture including a pair of book shelves and a desk

along with a white wash tutorial, the same technique I used to do these backboards.
