DARK WAXING A PAINTED DINING TABLE

Kamis, 21 April 2016

I have never had a dining room and the table we had when I was a child was in a corner just off the
kitchen. So I have never had a nice big dining table to decorate or invite friends and family to sit at.
When you have never had something you arent quite sure you miss it or not but looking at all the
wonderful and amazing dining rooms all over the internet and especially in blog land it is hard not to
want one. Well no matter how good I am at juggling my projects and work spaces there will never be
room for a dining table here in the trailer.

I usually pass on dining tables cause of the space issues I have but this one came in the summer
when I thought I could get to it in the nice weather. I did start it then but didnt finish it till recently.
It is very much like my Tuscan Server I did last year
http://blogspot.ca/2012/11/the-benefits-of-dark-wax-tuscan-blue.html

It first starts with a white layer of chalk paint and then a second layer of soft turquoise blue.

The left leg is painted in the blue and clear waxed.
The right leg has then been dark waxed.

Here the left leg has been dark waxed and sanded with 220 grit to expose the white and wood.
It also lightens the dark wax effect all the way down the leg.

The completed table is on display and available to purchase at BRICK & MORTAR LIVING

THE JOYS OF BLACK WAXING boys black bookshelf

Jumat, 15 April 2016

I love to wax black paint!
I love to wax graphite chalk paint!
I really really do!
I hope if I say it enough it might make it true.

Ive been playing around with these little cabinets for some time.
I wanting to transform them into a cute set of bedside tables.

Ideally some baskets for the openings, second hand of course because that is what I do.
99% of ever bit I use is recycled!
My screws and nails are bought at yard sales and discount stores, buying wood at a
lumber store is out of the question, and if I want baskets for cubbies they must be repurposed.
Guess what .... I didnt find them.
At this point I started to work at combining the two together into some needful thing ...

The front legs are harp arms from a vintage mirror, the top is a maple coffee table,
and the lower trim is the apron from the same table.
Just in the nick of time I got a message "I need a bookshelf for my sons room"
With the dimensions I was given this piece would work!

This bookshelf would need just a bit more shelving on top so with the kind help
of some pine headboards I was able to crown it off just right.

Now I had to wax the beast!

I hate waxing black paint!
I hate waxing graphite chalk paint!
No matter how often I do it I really dont enjoy it!

WHITE WAXING NEW TIP blue nightstands

Somewhere along this journey of mine I learned about coloring your wax with ASCP.
I have played with it on a few projects in the past but not to great extent.

Before stepping out to try this technique I do suggest it is best to get a good handle on regular waxing first.

Quite simply you added a small amount of paint color to a small amount of wax and mix it together.
It can add so much depth and style to any project.

These elaborate little beauties got a serious make over with a final coat of whitened wax.

Next time I will show you the details that went into building what I have nicknamed
*The Blue Paris Beauties*
