DINING CHAIR REFINISHING TIPS jens chairs

Senin, 02 Mei 2016

Long story short a friend was in need and I helped out.
These 6 chairs are clearly dated from 1976 on the bottom of the seats
and on the underside of the matching table. Im sorry but we do not have a photo of
the table at this time. Cross your fingers we will get a full shot of everything in place soon.
The set had been purchased sometime ago and the table was painted already.
But the poor chairs had been waiting their turn. When I realized there was an issue
and they needed to be completed I stepped in.
Jen requested the seats be upholstered in burlap.
She had bought the burlap coffee sacks from The Passionate Home.
TIP:
The interior of the sacks is much softer and smoother than the exterior due to the coffee
tumbling around in transit so be sure to check which side is actually smoother.
Rub each side of the burlap against the underside of your forearm or if you are wearing shorts
rub the burlap against your thigh to get an accurate feel for the texture.
I painted the chairs in a mix of ASCP old white and pure white to match the already painted table.
TIP:
When mixing ASCP colors to match an already existing piece
take into account the wax you will be using to finish with, will change the color slightly.
Dining chairs are a lot of work. Just look at all the surface space that has to be gone over for each chair.
I lightly distressed the edges to show the magnificent lines each chair has and
I also took the finish down several layers in a few spots to add to the vintage feel.
After 36 years the caning is in perfect condition on all of them.
These very comfortable chairs are now all finished and back home with their matching table.

GET UP AND GET STARTED script chairs

Senin, 18 April 2016

Dont wait until this happens .......

I recently saw this french provincial table on the road side in horrible condition,
I was gutted! It was long past the point of salvaging, 3 legs completely rotten, and so much filth
and damage to the rest of the table.

Starting a DIY project your self is really easy, the first step is to get up and go start.
Yes it is that simple and you know it. It doesnt have to big or elaborate but it has to be something
you have wanted to try.
My good friend Jen over at Jentiques recently wrote about procrastination when it came to her project list. But Ill tell you she does get up and get start more often than not and the results make her, her family, and her customers very happy.

My first furniture work shop was enlightening when one of the ladies told me that she just wanted permission, permission to paint furniture.
It came as some what of a shock to me but I suppose I also understood. I am sure once upon a time I went through those feelings but the rewards of all my DIY accomplishments have hidden away any insecurities I might have originally gone through.
My main goal to writing this blog is to get you up and get you started on your own projects,
and some of you have report back to me that you are starting, and I thank you for letting me know.

Im happy to report I have another batch of script chairs available for those who missed out the
first time around. There are 3 armless chairs and one is a captains chair with arms.

All painted in a creamy white, distressed and waxed, with french script fabric seats.

2013 CHAIRS FOR CHARITY

Minggu, 17 April 2016

October has arrived and the month is going to be busy. It is time to move my projects indoors
and batten down the hatches so to speech. We already had 2 nights of heavy wind and rain this past weekend. Now is when I start to feel a bit claustrophobic having to stay indoors so much more.
One event this month that will get me out of the house is Chairs for Charity at The Passionate Home.

photo taken by Glam it up Photography

This event raises money for the Langley Christmas Bureau. The Union Jack Chair above was my
donation last year and it raised $250 at the live auction. 20 chairs are being revamped and donated
by local artists. New this year professional photographer Steve Hayek is photographing each chair
that is dropped off before Oct 10th. All you participating artists take advantage and get your chair in
early just to get a fabulous photo of your work to show off.

This is my "BEFORE" picture for this year.

Ill share my finished chair with you when Steve gets it photographed.
No pressure Steve!! http://stevehayek.com/

Now to the details of the Event:

Date: Thursday, October 24, 2013
Where: The Passionate Home
20506 Fraser Hwy., Langley
When: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Chairs are auctioned off both through a silent and live auction ... process. The top 10 chairs go on the live auction block at 7:15pm on

treats from Frosting Cup Cakery.
**The remaining chairs are available through silent auction bids.
Bidding on these chairs opens on Tuesday, October 22nd at
1:00pm and closes on Thursday, October 24th at 7:00pm.

Starting some Adirondack Chairs for a wedding gift

Jumat, 18 Maret 2016

My sister is getting married in one month and I have decided to build a pair of Adirondack chairs to give to her and her fiance. I have never built any before but they look easy enough, cant be to hard!
I hear of people building and selling the Adirondack chairs. I wouldnt mind selling a few if I could make a decent profit on them but I will have to find somewhere to sell them. This weekend my girlfriend and I went to the local flea market and there were some nice Adirondack chairs there that were selling for $75 for the most basic single design. They were all completely unfinished and would need some sort of finishing before they could be sat outside in the weather.
Sounds like if I primed and painted them I could sell them for at least $150 each. It doesnt take alot of materials to build one and shouldnt take to much time, especially when you could get a system going and good pattern.
We will see.....

PROVINCIAL CHAIRS

Kamis, 04 Februari 2016

I found a couple of good chairs over the weekend and started painting them as soon as they arrived home. The weather has been quite nice and sunny lately which makes it possible for me to spray
outside. They are classic French Provincial dining chairs great for a desk or bedroom vanity. I tried
one at Georges desk and it looked amazing but there are already so many chairs here that
the law has to be put down regarding what stays and what goes. And these chairs must go! After
all thats why I bought them.

I sprayed them in a 50-50 mix of ASCP Old White & Pure White.

The seats got new foam and new French script upholstery.

Check out the SHOWROOM page for details.
