Today is Auction Day and your third and final chance to enter the Annie Sloan Workshop Giveway

Lets start this holiday season off with a big bang!

HOW THE BIDDING WORKS:
All of the fabulous donated chairs are displayed throughout The Passionate Home
with silent auction bid sheets. You can visit the store during the day and write in your bid
or visit the festivities this evening and stalk the chair you really want like I
might have done last year.

FOOD AND DRINK:
Starbucks will be on site serving beverages and I hope to see the same handsome young waiter
walking the floor with yummy treats as last year.

LIVE AUCTION:
4 chairs will go up for live auction at 7pm
I do not know which ones have been chosen for the live auction.

****************

Remember those who want a third entry into my Annie Sloan Workshop Giveway
must find me or George between 6:30 and 8:30pm and ask for another entry.

**CORRECTION**

This magnificent BC Lions Chair with all the teams signatures
was done by our very own

the other day I gave Debbie of Vintage Encore credit for this one
SHAME ON ME!
Debbie is doing another sports team chair,
for the Canucks which I have not seen yet.

A BED A BENCH AND A BIG BULB

Selasa, 29 Maret 2016

I love this new pretty and curvy bench I built. Every time I walk by it I smile.

The last bench I built I fell in love with too but I managed to find a place to keep that one. We have
never had a place to sit down in the mudroom until now, but now Im constantly sitting in there.
Tips on how to build a bench using a bed frame can be read here:
http://blogspot.ca/2013/06/bench-buiding-tips.html

This curvy one is made with 2 headboards and 1 foot board. You can see the back and sides are made
from a matching foot and head board but the front underside also has parts of a French provincial
headboard. All three frames used to build this bench are made of solid maple, which is a wonderful
hard wood and offers great stability in furniture making.

The seat is vintage pine boards salvaged from some local farm shelving. Pine is a soft wood.
Softwoods come from coniferous trees such as cedar, fir, and pine.

I also salvaged an antique milk glass floor lamp and cleaned it up, painted it, and rewired it.
The metal base has been spray in a snow white oil paint that matches the milk glass shade.

It has a tri light switch, meaning it has three different light brightness.

It also has an oversized socket and came with an over sized bulb.

And it also has a regular sized adapter for regular sized bulbs.

THE BIG JOB buffet and hutch

Jumat, 29 Januari 2016

Holey plate rail Batman, this hutch has 3 levels with a rail on each.

Doing large pieces like this are not very common for me,
I just dont have the space or back to pull it off.
I had my challenges starting this project 3 days before overhauling our bedroom living space.

It was solid, had a lot I could work with and could be used in so many different ways.

I could have just finished the bottom and used the top for parts but I liked the look of these
pieces together and knew together they would make an amazing show stopping statement.
AND THAT THEY DO!

The two pieces are painted in pure white, then I hand applied clear and dark wax
to the exterior to give it a antique white finish.

The interior was finished in clear wax leaving a cleaner bright finish.
The secret to getting the interior of cabinets painted well and waxed is to take the back panels off.
It is much easier to get into all the corners with both the paint and waxes,
and you can finish the back panels much nicer when laying down on a flat surface.

I removed the 2 middle doors and added a scalloped trim to the top frame.
