MUD ROOM MAKE OVER

Our mudroom had been consumed by water bottles, pop cans, discarded boxes, and all the other

crap I didnt want to see in the main part of the house. Time had come to reclaim this room and one

morning of surfing Pinterest got me motivated to start. Type in "AWESOME MUDROOMS" and see what you get.

 

 

 

 

Day 1, was a cooler morning as it had rained the night before. I was feeling the need to stay inside,

do some cleaning and eventually a great deal of purging. I had plenty of plastic bins that I could

fill and they would work just fine outdoors. So when George got home he had a stack of full bins

 waiting for him to take to the shed. Thank you honey do! The shed will be made over some other day.

 

 

Cleaning up the clutter went quickly also thanks to George dealing with the bottles the week before.
 This room is a small addition (5.5ft x 7ft) built around the back door of the trailer. It is not heated
 and in the winter it is cold. Keeping shoes and coats in there is off limits. I couldnt find the right use
 for the room, until now ...

 

 

Welcome to the new Etsy Shop!

 

Handles, knobs, hooks, and castors dont get too upset when they are a bit cold. All the Etsy stock has
 been over whelming the other rooms in the house. I was tripping over bags sitting in the living room,
sharing space in my dressing room, and the worst was giving up the kitchen island to constant piles of
 hardware in some state of being finished. Now its all contained in this one space, even the work surface.?

 

 

Day 2 went a lot slower. This was the day to fill and organize all the baskets, buckets, bins, and boxes
 with labels. Gathering all the hardware around the house was so much fun, I was finding new space
 in almost every room. Once the room started to come together with the bench I designed and built, I
wanted to add a soft edge for when we work in there so I hit Home Sense and bought this rug.

The rug is the only item purchased for this makeover, everything else we had.
The window on the back wall looks out to a storage area so I created a new view with a vintage
mirrored window, it makes the room feel bigger and reflects more of the light from the chandelier.
 

 

 

There is a bit more to this makeover which includes the chandelier and a custom paint job
but that will have to wait for another day ...

SMALL CHANGES in the dressing room

My work load has been slim the last week because for no good reason I pulled a muscle in the back

 of my shoulder. Dont worry Im resting and taking it easy but I cant go into the back room and

 create so Im puttering around the house walking stiff like a penguin. I have watched a few good

 movies and read some great blog articles. I even managed to slow down long enough to photograph

 some changes in the dressing room. I got in on the retailers storage sales and purchased three lined

 white baskets for above the window. They are perfect for storing some off season clothing.

 

 

The lining is so cute, a milk chocolate floral on a sandy back drop with long enough ties

to make bows on both ends.

 

 

I also changed my vanity mirror to this standing mirror I got last year from

Brick & Mortar Living in New West.

It was a "rediscovered" find and originally gold but it quickly was painted when I got it home.

 

 

I love the carved wood ribbon all the way around the frame.

You get to see my Fujifilm Finepix F500 EXR camera in this pic, I use it when lighting is bad.

A lot of the time youll find me shooting photos with my cell phone camera.

 

 

Here is what this room looked like right after moving in. That is actually a little vintage

loveseat that pulls out into a bed holding up all those clothes.

MRS Ps GUEST ROOM

It was time to create the next room in the Great Adventures of Mrs. P, her guest bedroom.

For those who are not familiar with Mrs. P yet, she is a fictional character Carrie and I have

created to offer a personality behind the room displays we create in The Passionate Home.

Ill offer links to the other rooms we have created at the end of this article.

 

 

While we were making up the bed with this beautiful new turquoise coverlet we learned that

Mrs. Ps eldest daughter is coming to stay for several months and is not so fond of the color.

 

 

But we know a lot of you really love the color and would really like to have it

in your bedroom. So Mrs. P has offered the Turquoise Queen Coverlet and 2 matching

pillow shams for a give away to one of the local shoppers of The Passionate Home.

 

All you have to do is walk into The Passionate Home located at 20506 Fraser Hwy Langley BC

and asked to be entered into the drawer for

Mrs. Ps bedding, no purchase necessary but you will have to answer a thought provoking question.

Such as ... would you like to see bedding available in the store?

Since we created the guest room in turquoise its going to fall on Mrs. P to

redecorate for her daughters upcoming visit in the shades of pink she so likes.
We are hopeful she will work with the toile curtains we fashioned with some Annie Sloan fabric.
Didnt know Annie did paint and fabric too?

I was quite shocked when I realized this birdcage was also a hanging lamp,

where does Mrs. P find these wonderfully unique things?

MRS Ps CRAFT ROOM store display

WELCOME TO MRS. Ps CRAFT ROOM

 

she has jars and bottle, books and paints,

she has lavender and burlap, fabric and crates,

she has boxes and bins packed full of nice things

she works in this room the whole time while she sings ?

 

Im here to confess creating these rooms isnt as easy as we make it look.

Trying to define a specific room inside a larger space has its challenges,

but after struggling we have built a work space for Mrs. P to create in.

When Carrie and I started trying to create Mrs. Ps craft room inside the store

we found picking the right furniture difficult as well as the placement.

 Craft rooms are a relatively new idea and something we all wish we had but

finding the space and setting it up can be daunting.

Every new home comes with an on suite, not many come with a dedicated craft room.?

Figuring out what you want to do in the space is critical to a set up that will work.

Mrs. P enjoys taking time to sit and read Annie Sloan books like this one called

Creating the French Look, so a comfortable chair is a great idea to include in the design.

Whether you are painting some mason jar vases, building a vintage photograph lamp shade or making

 lavender satchels, you need to figure out how big your work surface should be. We have used a small

 dining table and easily filled it with all sorts of things you would want to spread out while you are creating.

 

I brought in this French Provincial Server that I just finished to show how different pieces can be

 used in different spaces. Also find fun and creative ways to store your supplies for easy access and

to keep your supplies out in the open so you can see what you have to work with.

Knowing what I have to work with helps me be even more creative.

Its the kind of stencil she will be using to create all those grain sack images on pillows,
