The weather here has been amazing so I have been busy cleaning the outdoor work space.

It takes time to move from indoors to out and visa versa.

 

 

Ive started many new projects with the nice weather, including more nightstands, a coffee table,

some bar stools, a vintage record table, and a pub table. I do not recommend having several projects

 on the go cause you tend not to finish any in a timely fashion, and the same is happening to me. I just

 managed to finish the chest on chest I purchased in February, but that was more to do with the

right color choices than time. I hope you like the ASCP Coco on the drawer faces cause I sure

didnt like the whole dresser painted white, it was like a giant Michelin Man for your bedroom.

 

 

I changed the hardware to these french provincial handles that I sprayed in white.

Always be sure to clean your hardware with warm soapy water before painting.

UPDATING A BEDROOM what we did on labour day

During our Labour Day weekend George and I changed our bedroom area.

 

 

Above is how it looked before we started and below is us starting to move things around. 

 

 

Oh the dust bunnies!!!

 

 

3 days later and all the furniture is in place but there is plenty still to do before I can show you it all.

 

 

Yes I painted the loveseat, and what an amazing difference it has made to the space.

 

 

Im also going back and forth fiinishing up the buffet and hutch from last week.

 

 

A table has come my way that I have grand plans for.

Anyone have some wonderfully beaten up, weathered lumber (2 x 6 or larger) that you want rid of?

 

 

A set of 4 chairs found their way into the back of Georges Van.

Im feeling a tad bit overwhelmed and I havent mentioned the other 3 projects on my plate.

HOW TO WIPE ON POLY

 

After

 

When someone asks me what I recommend for a hard durable finish for a surface I always suggest

Minwaxs wipe on poly because I remember the first time I used it. It was easy to understand and

follow the directions that are offered on the can and the resulting finish is very hard and durable.

 

Before

 

It is time to refinish the surface of Georges old desk and share with you some tips for applying
Wipe On Poly.

 

 

This surface was stripped and stained first. Make sure your surface is dry and ready.

 

#1 wipe away any dust, dirty, or left over stain that might be sitting on the surface

I recommend using a glove and a folded piece of paper towel

 

 I pour the poly right on the surface of my project

 

 

I then wipe it from side to side covering the whole surface in a thin coat

 ?

if you have freshly stained your piece your rag will look like this the first time

leave it dry for 4 hours

 

?

once dry, lightly sand the surface 220+ grit

re-apply as many times as you like, waiting 4 hours between coats?
?

always move with the grain?

after the final light sanding, apply a coat of wax and buff

 

 ?

 

Each time your finish is drying it collects air born dust particles that create a rough texture.

Sanding between coats will eliminate that roughness and giving it a final coat of wax makes it super smooth and soft.

 

PLEASE NOTE :

 

Wipe on poly will yellow light colored surfaces.

Working on my shop!

I have been putting in alot of effort improving my shop lately. I bought a shop vac that was on sale (50% off so it was $40) and cleaned up alot of sawdust that had been sitting in my woodworking shop for over a year.
I have been looking alot lately at power tools and shop equipment. I have decided to go ahead and start investing in some high quality tools that will serve me for a long time. I want some nice woodworking tools and I figure if I am going to buy some I may as well by some high quality stuff.
My first big purchase will probably be a hybrid or cabinet style table saw. I need a good table saw because the one I have now is my stepfathers and it was probably $120 dollars or something like that. It is a good saw but just not up to the amount of work I want to thow at it.
I am also looking at buying the Festool plunge saw kit with the guide rail for cutting plywood and the like. It is $500 but every review that I read, the people say that it was probably their best investment. Sounds like a good tool for me!

Got some deals on some woodworking supplies!

Firday, my mother and I decided to go to a local salvage house to do some bargain shopping. The place we went to is a large freight companies "scratch and dent" store (AAA Cooper). While there was plenty of interesting things in there I only saw two things that I might could use in my shop.
One was a large roll of heavy duty paper that would be perfect to go on the side of my workbench so that I could stretch a sheet of paper across it when I want to paint or finish something, or just draw something really big. It was only $5 so I picked up a roll that should last a long time. I also grabbed a box of 100 latex gloves for one or two dollars that would come in handy some time or another.
When we were leaving the salvage house I recieved a call from a friend that was at an estate sale where there were alot of woodworking tools for cheap. I decided to ride over and I found some good tools for a good value.
-2 24" clamps $3 each
-2 2 1/2" C clamps $.50 each
-1 heavy duty square $2
I knew I could definately use some more clamps and every square that I have is a little bit out of square, even brand new ones! This one tested to be right on the money. I think from now on I will test every square before I buy it in the store.
